Eyelash Extensions FAQ

What are eyelash extensions?

True eyelash extensions are single fiber artificial eyelashes that are applied one at a time to one singe natural eyelash hair.

Can eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

When applied properly, extensions do not have the opportunity to cause damage to the natural eyelashes.  They actually grow, rest and shed right along with the natural eyelash to which they are applied, so there is no damage to neighboring eyelashes.

How long is the process?

A full set appointment takes about two hours and a touch up appointment takes about one hour.

How long do the eyelash extensions last?

Lash extensions last through the full growth cycle of your natural eyelashes, typically six to eight weeks. Each person’s lash growth is variable just like hair growth. So to maintain a full look we recommend a touch-up every no longer than every three weeks.

Can I still wear mascara?

Mascara is okay for use as long as it is glycol and carbonate-free.  We do not recommend using mascara every day  as like any wear and tear on the lashes, the more pulling and applying of a sticky substance, the more likely it is to loosen the adhesive bond.  Mascara by NovaLash is hypoallergenic, water-soluble, glycol and carbonate-free formula that we recommend clients use when they are in need of a touch-up and natural lashes are peeking through the extensions.  Regular mascara on the extensions is not recommended as it is hard to remove and can actually pull off the lashes prematurely when trying to take it off.

Can I still wear eyeliner?

We recommend LASHliner by Novalash to help achieve a more dramatic look, creat a full look if you have sparse lashes, and create a fuller lash look when you need a touch up application.  This award-winning lashliner is not your typical eyeliner; its toothipick thin pencil point deposits rich, creamy color deep between the eyelash hairs.

Is it safe to shower, swim, sweat and even sleep with these extensions?

Yes!  NovaLash adhesives are waterproof and sweat-proof.

Before your appointment

  • Please remove all makeup including foundation, mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara, eye creams and serums.  If makeup have to be removed when you arrive for your appointment, it takes away from your service time.

  • Cleanse eye area and eyelashes gently but thoroughly to remove any residual oils or mascara.

  • Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment - wear your glasses instead.

  • Do not curl your eyelashes on the day of your appointment.

  • Ensure you have fully recovered from any recent skin treatments such as chemical peels, brow waxing, laser treatments, permanent makeup procedures, or eye surgery procedures.

  • If you have any eye infection or irritation on the day of your appointment, please inform me so I may determine if it is safe to perform the service.

After your appointment

  • DON'T get your extensions wet for 24 hours after application.

  • DON’T pluck or pull your eyelashes.  When a natural lash is plucked from the root prematurely, it will leave unsightly gaps and increases the chances of irritation and infection.  This also means less natural lashes will be available to adhere extensions to when it is time for a touch-up.

  • DO condition and cleanse your eyelash extensions daily with a formula that is carbonate and glycol-free.  This will keep the hair from tangling and also add moisture to the extensions allowing them to stay flexible and radiant, resulting in more comfortable lashes and extends the wear-time.

  • DON'T neglect your own lashes. Maintain the health of your natural lashes with an eyelash conditioner or growth serum. They help the hairs to stay in the follicle longer resulting in stronger support for the extensions.  We recommend you use cleanLASH by NovaLash 3 in 1 conditioner, cleanser and makeup remover pads.  These pads are tightly woven and swipe over the extensions without causing any damage, leaving clean, fresh, conditions and radiant extensions.

  • DO brush your extensions each morning.  This reduces the potential of tangling and twisting, which causes tension on the natural lashes and could lead to premature shedding.

  • DON’T use eyelash curler, as it will damage your extensions.
